Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) WSDOT is currently seeking an expert-level IT professional to serve as the Geographic Information System (GIS) Application Development Supervisor in Tumwater, WA and lead a team of four other GIS application developers. This position is located within WSDOT’s Multimodal Planning and Data Division, GIS and Roadway Data Office, and will provide strategic leadership for the development, integration, and support of Esri-based GIS applications and systems that enable the collection, management, and distribution of critical transportation data statewide. In this role, you will work independently and in close coordination with Technology Services Division (TSD) application development, infrastructure, and network teams, ensuring GIS architecture aligns with agency modernization efforts while maintaining reliable service delivery. The GIS Application Development Supervisor will also provide expert consultation to agency leadership and architects enterprise GIS solutions that leverage linear referencing systems and other GIS functions in field data collection platforms, on-premise systems, and cloud-based environments. These solutions support core WSDOT business activities such as highway performance management, maintenance operations, project development, planning, and environmental compliance. Strong candidates will demonstrate advanced GIS and Esri platform expertise, enterprise systems architecture experience, and application development team management skills.
